About Angkor Balloon

Angkor Balloon first open in 2003, and since 2018 it has been managed by Areophile which is a French company that manages 7 other tethered balloons in France and the USA. This is a very safe attraction. The balloon is connected to a thick steel cable and is raised and lower by a substantial mechanical winch. The balloon itself contains 6,000 cubic metres of helium, which provides 6,000 kg of upwards lift. The maximum number of passengers allowed in the fully enclosed platform is 30, which leaves around 1,500 kg of lift to allow for the force of the wind. The wind speed is carefully monitored and the number of passengers allowed depends on the wind speed. The higher the wind speed the fewer the number of passengers who can board and if the wind is too strong then the balloon isn’t allowed to take off at all. In case of an emergency, the balloon can be operated by the captain who accompanies each flight allowing it to descend safety in the extremely unlikely event that the cable breaks or the winch stops working.
