Eating the local food is something you should make sure you try when you visit Cambodia, and there are plenty of options to choose from. One of our favourite cheap street food dishes is a take-away of fried noodles. This is rapidly cooked fresh food which is very unlikely to give you food poisoning.

The take-away noodles pictured above are possibly the best you will in Phnom Penh and they cost exactly $1 USD. The stall to get them from is on the Preah Sisowath Quay Road in front of the riverside flower market near to the main entrance to Phnom Penh’s Royal Palace.
About the one dollar noodles
The young woman who runs the stall is an expert at cooking noodles, which you would expect as this popular stall sells only one dish: one dollar noodles.

The cooking process takes less than 5 minutes and it starts with vegetables and eggs being added with a little oil to the frying pan.

The next stage in the cooking process is the addition of dark soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce.

After a few minutes pre-cooked yellow noodles are added to the frying pan. The vegetables and noodles are mixed together with a spatula until warmed through. The dish is then scooped up into a take-away box with the fried egg placed on top. Last, but not least, the dish receives a final drizzle of sweet chilli sauce and a dollop of fiery chilli paste. Eaten outside sitting in the grass in front of the river this dish is a one dollar slice of culinary heaven. Simple, cheap and tasty.
