About Travel to Stung Treng
Stung Treng is a small town of around 30,000 permanent residents, and the last town on route North along the Mekong River to the border with Southern Laos. By road it’s only 67 km from Stung Trend Town to the Laotian border, however, parts of the road are in a poor condition so the journey takes around 90 minutes in a bus or a minivan. Hotels and guesthouses can normally book seats on various bus and minivan services heading to destinations within Laos, particularly Don Det in the popular 4,000 islands region. Booking ticket, or taking a taxi, only as far as the border with Laos inadvisable. You need to walk some distance from the border crossing to Laos to find onward transport, which is infrequent.

Stung Treng Town has a small number of guesthouses, hotels and restaurants that cater well to foreign visitors. In the evening time we recommend heading to one of the restaurants (such as the Tonle Khiev Restaurant) for food and drink by the Sekong River, which is at the Northern end of the town. For more advenutorus visitors activities on offer near Stung Treng include kayaking, mountain biking (there are some good rural trails), and hiking to the hill top viewpoint of the meeting of 3 three rivers.
