About Travel to Pattaya
Pattaya is the closest beachfront holiday to destination to Bangkok, and its very popular for a number of reasons. The city itself has around 300,000 permanent residents, and around 100,000 hotel rooms. Tourism is big business in Pattaya. In 2019 the city attracted an estimated 9 million visitors.
Who Does Pattaya Appeal to?
Pattaya appeals to lots of different types of visitors, from lots of different countries. There is a lot more to Pattaya than how it is often seen, which is as destination for single men to visit go-go bars. Certain parts of the city, particularly Walking Street, do have concentrations of establishments related to the sex-industry, however, Pattaya is a lot more that.
As well as the single men, Pattaya is becoming very popular with families, particularly from other Asian countries. Pattaya receives a lot of Indian families. Pattaya is also a popular destination for Thai holiday makers travelling in family groups by private car.

Pattaya Beach
Pattaya Beach is 3 km long and located in front of the busiest part of Pattaya City. Pattaya Beach gets very crowded. In many areas beach loungers for hire are positioned close together 3 to 4 rows deep. Pattaya Beach is fairly narrow and the beach loungers often take up as much as half of the width of the sand. The set up makes it a little uncomfortable for those who simply want to lie on the sand on a matt or towel.
Pattaya Beach also has lots of vendors, particularly people selling trays of cooked seafood. Eating seafood whilst lying a sunlounger is a popular activity for many visitors to the city.
Koh Larn
Koh Larn is a small island just 5 km from Pattaya. There are lots of speedboats and a cheap public ferry running between Pattaya and Koh Larn.
Koh Larn typically receives between 3,000 and 20,000 visitors a day in high season. The reason so many people go there is that the island has 8 beaches, all of which are considerably better for swimming and sunbathing than Pattaya Beach.
Activities for Families
Pattaya has a large concentration of large leisure parks and other large scale attractions which appeal to families. For example:
