About Banlung
Banlung is located in one of the most remote regions of Cambodia known for its vast forests, lakes and waterfalls. Banlung is the gateway to jungle trekking experiences in Virachey National Park, a visit to the Veal Thom grasslands and lazy afternoons around the Yak Lom Lake.
Forest lake near BanlungThe Virachey National Park covers an area of over 3,300 square kilometres and is home to lots of wild bird and animals. the best way to explore the park is to organise an one or two night trek through the national park authorities, private trekking companies are not permitted to take visitors into the national park. The Ministry of Environment has an office in the centre of Banlung town where you can book a trek (its called the Virachey National Park Office and is located on Street 33 in Banlung. You may though choose to go with a private company which will provide food, transport, a place to sleep and a guide for less than the Park authorities charge to areas to similar to those within the Virachey National Park. Banlung also has a nearby lake in a forest (a circular lake called Yak Lom), an interesting temple on a hill, more amazing countryside, gem mines, rubber plantations and a market where they sell lots of interesting things that are found in the forest.
