About Travel to Pattaya

Pattaya is one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations. Around 9 million people came to Pattaya on holiday in 2019 and at that time the city, which has around 300,000 inhabitants, had over 100,000 hotel rooms available.

Pattaya’s popularity as a tourist destination is largely due to it’s location. By bus it takes around 3 hours to travel from Pattaya to Bangkok city centre and 2 hours to travel to Thailand’s main international airport, Suvarhabhumi International Airport. This makes Pattaya the closest major beach resort destination for people visiting from Bangkok, as well as for the majority of people entering Thailand by air. As a consequence Pattaya has developed a range of attractions which suit visitors on short breaks, most notably the city’s vibrant nightlife.

Pattaya, however, has more to it than it’s nightlife, which is distinctly unsuitable for families or people more interested in Thailand’s culture and magnificant landscapes, than they are sitting in bar alll night every night. There are several beaches in Pattaya city which are pleasant, although for good swimming beaches you need to take a ferry the short distance across to Koh Larn, which has 8 beaches in total as well as many restaurants, bars and hotels.

For families the city has a number of relatively high investment tourist attractions, many of which will be enjoyable for children:

  • Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden: Located to the North of Pattaya.
  • Ramayana Water Park: Located to the South of Pattaya.
  • Silverlake Vineyard: Located to the East of Pattaya.
  • The Sanctuary Of Truth: Located at the Northern edge of Pattaya city.
  • Wat Phra Yai: Located in the Southern part of Pattaya city.
  • Columbia Pictures Aquaverse: Located to the South of Pattaya city.
